McCain Protest

“McCain Says Warfare, We Say Healthcare”Aug. 18 –  150 chanting protesters took over the sidewalk in front of the entrance to the downtown Atlanta Marriott Marquis, site of an exclusive fundraiser for presidential candidate John McCain. As the luxury automobiles arrived to discharge their wealthy occupants, they had to drive through a spirited picket line composed of union members, retired workers, Iraq and Vietnam war vets, students, anti-nuclear activists, and others.
Many of the signs demanded troops out now, called for no war on Iran, denounced McCain’s plan to privatize Social Security and labeled him as Bush III. Passing motorists honked their horns in approval of the varied slogans.
Among the protest’s initiators were the International Action Center, Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition, North Georgia Labor Council and Alliance of Retired American Workers.
